Inclusive Civic Engagement: Women and Girls with Disabilities
Women and girls with disabilities are too often left out of the rooms where decisions about their own lives are made. At Elevate Her, we work to change that, ensuring that civic and political spaces are not just open to them, but built to include them from the start.
Grounded in the UNCRPD, our Civic Engagement work equips young women and girls with disabilities with the confidence, knowledge, and platform to participate meaningfully in leadership, governance, and peacebuilding processes. We work alongside caregivers, other Organizations of Persons with disabilities, and grassroots feminist actors to break down the physical, social, and institutional barriers that keep women and girls with disabilities from leading.
Under this strand, our UNWYDE project (UN Women/EU-funded “Her Voice, Her Agency, Her Power”) has built women’s capacity in civic participation, county budget oversight, and affirmative-action fund monitoring, producing five participants now standing in the 2027 general elections.

Through this work, Elevate Her ensures that rural, young, and marginalized women and girls with disabilities don’t just have a seat at the table, they help set it.
