Lobbying & Advocacy
At Elevate Her, advocacy is not a side activity, it is how we turn lived experience into policy change. As a women-led Organization of Persons with Disabilities (OPD), we work at every level, from courtrooms in Kibra to national policy review tables, to make sure the voices of women and girls with disabilities and caregivers of children with disabilities shape the laws and systems that govern their lives.
Our advocacy and lobbying work includes:
National Policy Influence:
Elevate Her participated in the State Department for Gender's review of Kenya's National Policy on Gender and Development (NPGAD), working alongside FIDA-Kenya, Equality Now, and other grassroots organizations within the Access to Justice, and Gender-Based Violence and Emerging Trends thematic group: ensuring disability inclusion is reflected in national gender policy.
Disability Act Advocacy:
Elevate Her participated and contributed in the new Disability Act of 2025, we held debunking sessions on the new act creating awareness and sensitizing the community. We are currently part of the technical working group that is working towards the development of guidelines and standards of the implementation of the new disability Act.
Institutional Relationship-Building:
We engage directly with duty bearers, including Kenya's Gender Transformation and Equality Directorate (GTED) and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), building the formal relationships needed to embed disability inclusion into government planning and services.
Community Accountability Engagement:
Climate-linked economic empowerment through training in eco-friendly enterprise such as recycling and urban farming, connecting climate action directly to the economic independence of women with disabilities.
Through sustained advocacy at the grassroots, county, and national level, Elevate Her ensures that policy change starts with, and stays accountable to, the women and girls it is meant to protect.
